Activities

Students are encouraged to become involved in the life of the school through a variety of activities including sporting, cultural and the arts.

Flagships of the school include the Duke of Edinburgh programme where students are supported to work towards and complete their Gold Hillary Award, The William Pike Challenge, the OTA Arts Festival, Smokefree Rockquest competitions, Olla Podriga Talent Quest, Relay for Life and Kapa Haka. 

We are also involved in the Reporoa Senior Exchange programme which is the longest running senior exchange programme in New Zealand; this year is the 56th year in the programme which involves students competing in basketball, debating, hockey, football, netball and rugby.

Otamatea High School runs Inter-iwi competitions throughout the year. 

The Sporting Champions Cup with competition points towards this cup coming from Swimming Sports, Athletic Sports, Triathlon, Cross Country, Round the Loop, Unihoc/Floorball, Football, Basketball, Netball and Rippa Rugby.

The Paddle is our Inter-iwi Academic Competition with iwi's competing events and competitions from each learning area in the school and include Arts week, Haka and Waiata, Debating, Mathex, Chess, My Iwi Rules and The Quiz.

These competitions are 'hard fought' with every event points going towards the end of year presentation for Champion Iwi.
