Authors and story tellers visit

By I. McLeod

On Monday, we were very lucky to have the amazing Rose Northey and the Te Awhi Rito Reading Ambassador Ben Brown visit our school.

Ben has been writing stories for over 40 years. Not only was he a fount of knowledge and ideas and has a novel way of interweaving Te Reo Maori and Te Reo Pakeha into his books. Of note was the freestyle rap that the students created along with Ben and he introduced the students to Tom Sawyer and the world of pseudonyms.

Rose was really inspiring. Having studied originally Mechanical Engineering at Auckland University,  she is now a freelance artist.  Her repertoire covers graphic arts, poetry , illustrations and performance art. Her performance of her poem 'the opposite of an EXISTENTIAL crisis '  was extremely energising.
