Duke of Edinburgh Silver pre expedition to Te Paki tracks

By Robyn Bruce

On Friday 18 to 21 March a silver group completed their pre expedition to the Te Paki Coastal track . They started at Spirits Bay and ended up at the Te Paki Stream road end, 48 km later. The group were tested with a wide variety of terrain and weather. Highlights of the weekend were the strong winds, Cape Reinga ,mussels for dinner, the remoteness and the beautiful scenery. Noah and Jade sandboarded down the famous Te Paki sand dune and became movie stars!

The group are now preparing for their qualifier to the Tongariro Northern Circuit at the end of April.

A HUGE thank you to our van driver and relocator, Mr Burnell. Thank you also to our shadow party, Ken Hames and Sharlene Tornquist
