End of Year Camps and Activities

YEAR 7
The year 7s at Otamatea High school enjoyed 3 days of activities where they walked the Hatea Loop followed by a well-deserved swim at the Aquatic Centre, climbed at Adventure Forest and participated in school-based activities which included Christmas decorations, cupcake creations and beading. Unfortunately, due to the weather, the students were unable to have a go at archery and target shooting which was planned.

YEAR 8
To finish their intermediate years at Otamatea High School the year 8 students embarked on their end of year camp. Camping over at Ruakaka Beach Holiday Park,  the students, parents and school staff enjoyed camping in tents and participating in a variety of activities from raft building, scavenger hunts, surfing and kayaking. The year 8s were supported by student leaders who ran team building activities and fun sports games. Thank you so much to the parents who came along and helped at the camp, we really appreciate you.

Year 9
The year 9s at Otamatea High school visited Adrenaline Adventure Park and Action Matakana on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday was spent at school taking part in various activities.

Year 10
This year saw us return to the Kai iwi Lakes Year our Year 10 camp. And what a welcome we received! Torrential rain on arrival saw us setting up very quickly, but the skies cleared and the sun came out for the remainder of our stay. We took students mountain biking, sailing across lake Taharoa, Building rafts, eating great food, Ski biscuiting, Kayaking, Volleyball, playing games on our massive slip n slide mat, and spent a morning at lake Waikere beach. We watched movies by the lake at night and played spotlight late at night.

The students were in great spirits and got into each activity. A huge thanks to Kyle Van Harligen and Darren Sheppard for bringing their boats and taking the students biscuiting. Some students had multiple goes and it took Kyle and Darren some effort to get a couple of them to "involuntarily dismount" Another big thanks goes to Mark Burkill and Donna Griggs for helping out and joining in on camp. Having parents at camp is a highlight so come along next year and join in on the fun! Students came back from each activity buzzing and that is all thanks to our amazing staff. Nicola Kemp, Kari Meachin, Dave Burnell, Marco Troost, Samid Buksh, Annette Atkins, Jess Baker and Jason Roux.

A huge thanks to our senior students, they lead from the front and were amazing with their respective groups and it is always great to see our student leaders put their skills to use and to reminisce about what we did at their Year 10 camp.

Lastly, a huge thanks to our awesome Year 10 cohort. It is true that it takes a village to raise a child, this group are a credit to you as parents and to their awesome school. They got stuck into each activity and had a great time, helped where and when they were asked and were an absolute pleasure to have on camp.

Bring on 2023 Year 10 Camp.
