It has been great to see so many of our students taking part in sporting events over the past two weeks. Starting with our annual sports exchange with Reporoa College and then the Bay of Islands Beast rounding off a busy fortnight.

Sunday 14th and Monday 15th August - 35 students travelled to Reporoa College for the 56th Yearly exchange. Otamatea came away with wins in netball, debating, sevens rugby, futsal and volleyball. Reporoa were too strong for us in the boys and girls basketball. All students thoroughly enjoyed their exchange and look forward to Reporoa visiting Otamatea next year.

Senior netball Championship and Cup Tournament. Two teams travelled to KeriKeri netball centre to take part in the tournament. The Otamatea UNISS team placed 3rd out of 8 teams in the championship round. Netball team two which was a mixed year 9 - 13 team did not place but had lots of great experience playing in the senior competition.

Under 15 boys rugby game vs Keri Keri High School. A wet day presented the team on Wednesday last week to play their game. The boys worked hard throughout the game against a well drilled long standing team. Although Otamatea lost their team work and skills are improving all the time.

Badminton Girls Team Championship  Billie Le Mesurier Cowbourne, Sophie Steinacker and Alana Yardley had a great tournament with some really nail biting games which were thrilling to watch. The girls placed 2nd over all.

Collegiate Hockey vs KeriKeri High School   A fantastic game by the Otamatea team who really connected well with great passing and team work. A 2-1 loss but the win could have gone either way.

Junior Netball year 7/8 and 9/10 Tournament  Two year 7/8 and 9/10 teams travelled to Dargaville to compete in this tournament. All students had a great day and got to play lots of netball. A huge thank you also to our student umpires - Pyper Buxton, Zoey Smythe-King and Stevie-Raye Rawaho-Ball who travelled to the event and helped not just Otamatea teams but lots of other schools as well.

Basketball year 7/8 mixed Tournament   The year 7/8 mixed basketball team competed in a tournament in Whangarei on Wednesday 24 of Aug.  The team played very well and came second place out of a total of 7 teams. There are many students working hard to develop their basketball skills at Otamatea and it is showing in their performance.

Under 15 Boys rugby game vs Whangarei Boys    The boys team is improving every week and it was great to watch the team work and great attitude towards the game from all the players. Thanks must also go to all the supporters watching the game and cheering the team on.

Basketball Senior Boys Cup Tournament    Congratulations to the senior boys teams who had a great tournament and placed 2nd out of 8 teams.

Bay of Islands Beast  33 students had a great day tackling mud. steep hills and other obstacles to complete the 5 km cross country race. Well done to Harry Wood who placed 5th over all and Tennessee Brewer who was the 4th girl to finish. Congratulations to all the rest of the students for completing the fun but challenging course.
