Olla Podriga in the Park 2021

By Adam Blake

Once again, Olla Podriga has been disrupted due to covid restrictions, but that didn’t stop students from putting on an unreal show. Having planned for months, but not able to rehearse due to lockdowns, performers were finally able to meet for their only full band rehearsals of the year, the day before the show. With rain threatening the day, staff and students nervously worked on a plan C. A successful rehearsal day left everyone feeling ready, and eager to get on stage.

Luckily, the rain and clouds cleared and we were given a hot, summer day for the performance. Finally at lunch the audience started to gather, less than 24 hours after the only rehearsal had ended, ready for a show. Our incredible singers and musicians performed everything from acoustic ballads to full blown rock and roll. The sun brought out the best in the band and the crowd, and we were lucky enough to have a staff vs students lip sync battle hosted by Jaden. Huge credit to Mrs Alcock and Ms Reynolds who took on Kieran and Holly in the most intense lip sync battle this music teacher has ever seen.

A massive well done to Jacob, Heidi, Kelly, Saffron, John, Margaret, Tammy, Mark, Roy, Flynn, Katherine, Olive, and our very own Dion Dobbyn, and a huge thanks to Mrs Coll, Mr Townshend, and Mr Baker on making the music happen.

Bring on next year's ear bleeding, rock and rolling, sun burning, lip sync battling, crowd pleasing, guitar dueling, Podriga in the Park.
