Year 10 Work Experience Day 12 August 2021

By Elizabeth van den Berg

Overall the Year 10 Work Experience Day was a huge success. Students went to various exciting workplaces. Some of these were: the Police Helicopter in Auckland, Northpower in Whangarei, Kiwikrane, DV Electrical, Tori-Lee Equestrian, Dream Planning, NIWA, Rural Design, Advanced Concrete Pumping, shops, automotive, motorcycle as well as engineering workshops and Astley Construction at school who are doing the B-block upgrade.

With 85 year 10 students it took some organisation but with parents taking most of the responsibility of finding the opportunity and the community willing to take students on, it worked out well.

Asked what benefit they gained from the day one student said: “I learnt how they work and what they do day to day and I learnt a lot!” and another “I think I wanna be a vet.”
