OHS Athletic Sports

This year athletics was broken up into two days. Tuesday 22nd February saw the year 9 - 13 Otamatea Athletics Championships Sports take place. Friday 25th February saw the year 7 and 8 Otamatea Athletics Championships Sports take place. Both days were hot and sunny with very little breeze.

The students showed great athleticism in both the track and field events.

Congratulations to the following students who broke records on the day:

Junior Girls discus – Izzy Paikea broke Monique Sheppard’s record of 14 m 91 cm set in 2018 with a new distance of 15 m 31 cm.

Junior Girls shot put – Pyper Buxton broke Leayah Buxton’s record of 8 m 35 cm set in 2021 with a new distance of 8 m 58 cm.

Junior Boys shot put – Junior Ulisala broke his own record of 10 m 02 cm set in 2021 with a new distance of 10 m 61 cm.

Intermediate Girls shot put – Leayah Buxton broke Te Arna Matefeo’s record of 9m46 set in 2016 with a new distance of 10 m 13 cm.

Senior Girls 800 m – Natalia Orchard broke Trista Comer’s record of 2.43.42 set in 2020 with a new time of 2.39.07

Thanks to all the fantastic parents/whanau who made this championship event possible by stepping up and time keeping the running events and helping some of the field events.  Thank you to all the staff and students who helped throughout the days in the many jobs to keep the days running smoothly. Lastly thank you to all the athletes who gave all competitions their all to make two very enjoyable days.
