On Tuesday 17 May, 14 senior students took part in a first aid training course run by First Training and funded through our Gateway programme.
Students will qualify for their 'Workplace first aid certificate' plus 4 NCEA credits
Fifteen Year 7 and 8 students travelled to McKay stadium on Monday 16th May. The girls' team played in the wheelchair turbo touch competition and the boys played in the turbo touch competition. All students enjoyed learning a new sport and skills on the day.
Academic Mentoring: Thank you to all the parents/caregivers and whānau who attended this week’s academic mentoring appointments. These meetings are important opportunities to track your child's NCEA progress as well as how they are tracking against their goals. If you weren’t able to attend, please contact your child’s whānau teacher to reschedule a time.
Pink Shirt Day: Today was Pink Shirt Day across New Zealand and our staff and students got behind this anti bullying message by wearing pink, and celebrating kindness and diversity at our school. Well done to our prefects for running our school assembly on Wednesday and promoting this important message.
Absenteeism: We have seen a rise in absenteeism this past week, with lots of bugs, colds and of course COVID still in our communities. Please remember to keep your child at home if they are unwell. If you do need to pick up your sick child from school, you are welcome to take a free RAT (Rapid Antigen Test) with you.
PTCA: Thank you to our hardworking Otamatea High School PTCA members for their generous donation of $6000 towards new library books and furniture. This is very much appreciated. PTCA stands for Parents, Teachers and Citizens Association and welcomes anyone in our community who can spare time and skills to help this amazing group with fundraising activities that benefit our children. Your commitment can be whatever you are comfortable giving so please contact the school if you would like to join, or simply help out from time to time with fundraising events.
Teaching Y7/8 Maths: It was great to be back in the classroom this week, taking classes of year 7s and year 8s for a couple of really fun mathematics lessons. We have so many bright young minds in our school and it was wonderful to see these students giving their brains a good problem solving workout.
Ngā mihi
