Principal's News

Enrolment Scheme:
The Ministry of Education (MOE) is currently working with the Board of Otamatea High School to implement a new enrolment scheme, to be put in place for 2023 student enrolments. This has become necessary due to the rapid roll growth we are currently experiencing. Enrolment schemes are needed to help manage the risk of overcrowding at schools. It will mean that only students living in the defined 'home zone' will have an automatic entitlement to enrol at Otamatea High School. A clear and transparent process is then followed for any additional out of zone enrolments. Before a home zone is implemented, the MOE is undertaking a consultation process with our communities. Please see the link below to have your say on the proposed establishment of this new enrolment scheme.

Consultation closes: 17th June, 2022

School Activities and notices

Level 2 Primary Industries Quad Bike Course
On Tuesday the 31st May Kevin Mitchell from Training Ventures ran a quad bike course at the Maungaturoto Country Club. Students learned how to ride a quad safely on a variety of terrain in a variety of weather events. Thanks very much to the Maungaturoto Country Club for allowing us to use their facilities and also to Kyle from Maungaturoto Motorcycles for generously loaning us the use of a quad bike.

Part-time Head Cleaner required for 20 hours per week. Must be physically fit, a team player as they will be responsible for the daily supervision of a small team, ensuring work is completed to a high standard. A reasonable level of computer literacy is required to organise stock control of cleaning products, implement cleaning schedules and respond to cleaning requests. Ideally be available to cover for other team members when required. This is a permanent role and dependent on a clear Police check.

Application process:  Apply in writing (CV and completed support staff application form to richard.reed@otamatea.school.nz) by 4pm, Friday 24th June 2022.

Sports this week

Hockey   Otamatea played Bream Bay Hockey Club Boys. A tough game against an experienced team. We lost 4 - 0 but the team never gave up.

Netball umpire achievements    A huge congratulations to Stevie-Raye Rawaho-Ball and Pyper Buxton for being awarded their Junior Netball umpire badges last weekend.

Clay Target Shooting   Well done to the Otamatea team of boys - Aaron Westlake, Connor Alcock, Max Cotching, Kellan Antunovich and Matai Hartles who competed at Kaikohe and placed 5th overall out of 11 teams. A great achievement. Congratulations to Aaron Westlake who placed 3rd in the Junior Boys single rise.

Football   The boys team travelled to Tauraroa Area School on Wednesday afternoon. The boys played a great game and came away with a 8 - 2 win
Sadly the Tauraroa girls defaulted to our girls team this week but a large group of the girls travelled up to support the boys playing.

Kiwi Tag   Unfortunately this event was cancelled due to very wet weather.

Inter Iwi Football has been played this week with lots of close games between each of the iwi teams. The overall winner for the week was Whatua
