Principal's News

Staff Only Day: A reminder that Wednesday 14th September is a staff only day at Otamatea High School. Teachers and teacher aides will be involved in 'relationships first' professional development all day. There will be no school for students.

Chess: The was no shortage of players in D3 this week for the inter-iwi chess competition. Played over three rounds, teams battled it out during intervals on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. After many pins, forks and queen sacrifices, Arawa came out on top, narrowly edging out Maniapoto for the overall win.

Options Evening: It was great seeing so many parents and caregivers at our Options Evening on Wednesday night. The hall looked fantastic, with everyone enjoying the displays, thinking about subject choices and discussing possible career options. These students now have their first option sheets for 2023 and it is imperative that parents and whānau work alongside their children when making choices for NCEA subjects next year. Option sheets need to be completed and returned to the school office by Friday 16th September.

AIMS: Congratulations to our netball players who have been in Tauranga all week competing in the AIMS Games. After a very strong showing in the group games, the team made it through to the A grade - a fantastic performance from these girls. In the end, they finished 32nd out of 110 teams, a very impressive result.

Enrolment Scheme: A reminder that Otamatea High School's Enrolment Scheme for 2023 has now been confirmed. Students living in the home zone, and those who qualify through the grandparenting provision, have automatic entitlement to enrol for 2023. This coming Wednesday we will go through the ballot process to allocate available places in year 7, 12 and 13 for next year. Places in year 8, 9, 10 and 11 may become available in January 2023. Applications for these year levels will be placed on the waiting list. For further details please see our website or contact Nikki Donaldson on 0800 682 628 ext 213. Our next enrolment evening is on the 14th of September.

Olla Podriga: One of the highlights of our calendar is coming up on Tuesday night. If you haven't got your tickets yet these are available from the main office. Olla Podriga is our popular talent show, and proves to be a very entertaining evening, so please come along and support our amazing home grown talent.

Policy Review: Each term a number of school policies come up for review, as part of our triennial review programme. If you wish to provide any recommendations on these policies, please click on this link, The username is Otamatea, and the password is bickerstaffe. We value your feedback.
