Sports Update

Kiwi tag    Our year 7 and 8  students have enjoyed learning to play the game of Rugby League kiwi tag. Cori Paul from Rugby League Northland has been coming down and taking coaching sessions. The students then got to attend two tournaments this term.

Thursday 27th October was the mixed teams festival day and Wednesday 16th November was the boys festival day. All students enjoyed these festival days and gained more skills leading into next year.

Badminton On Thursday 10th November 5 year 7 and 8 students attended the teams badminton festival day. All our students thoroughly enjoyed the day and got to play many students from other schools in Northland.

After many weeks of training during school breaks with Mr Townshend the year 7 and 8 basketball team enjoyed a friendly game against Bream Bay College. The game was very close throughout the first 3 quarters with the lead changing each quarter. The final quarter saw Otamatea gain dominance to take the win 56 -48. Thanks must go to Adam Barlow for managing the team during the game and to Isaiah Pere for refereeing.

Year 7 and 8 Fast Five festival tournament  After some concerns that the tournament would be cancelled due to the wet weather, three teams travelled to play lots of fast five netball in McKay stadium. All teams had a great day playing other teams from all around Northland. Congratulations to the year 8 team who came away undefeated at the end of the day.

A huge thanks to Erana Maui who has been coaching volleyball with our year 7 and 8 students. The students attended the Northland year 7 and 8 volleyball festival day in Whangarei with Erana coaching the team. Erana had huge praise for the students during the tournament day, with the team improving with every game played on the day.
