School Notices 3 September 2021

Acting Principal's Notes

Kia Ora koutou,

Northland has now moved down to alert level 3 and hopefully we will see a relaxing of the alert levels in the near future and be able to return to school. Until then, let me remind you of the regulations.

At Alert Level 3, everyone should stay at home and learn from home, as much as possible
Only those children (years 7-10) who no longer have appropriate care at home, can come to school ie the children of essential workers.
Students in years 11 – 13 are not able to attend onsite at Alert Level 3.

Therefore, students are continuing to learn from home, using the school’s online platform. Everything they need to know is at this one stop shop and can be accessed from the school website. Below are the school expectations for students:

EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS DURING THE ALERT LEVEL 3 LOCKDOWN

  • All students must attend whānau time every school day via Google Meets at 10:00am.

  • All students must attend all live stream classes via Google Meets.  Teachers will let you know when this will be.  All senior students will have one Google Meets conference a week in a time slot when they would normally have that subject.

  • To go to Google Sites every school day and complete the allocated work which the teachers have assigned.

  • Students from each year level are expected to spend approximately the following amount of time during each regular school day on their assigned work:

         Years 7 and 8: 3 hours

         Years 9 and 10: 4 hours

         Years 11 - 13: 5 hours

  • Students must consider when their work is due and organise their time so that they can manage their commitments.

  • To keep in communication with their classroom teacher regarding this work, eg, any issues they are having with their work.

  • To meet all deadlines set by their teachers.

Finally, I have been really pleased with the large number of students who sign into whanau time each morning. It is great to see them and to check in with how they are getting on in lockdown. The staff at Otamatea High School meet three times a week to be briefed about the current situation and to connect with one another, below is a snapshot of what that looks like in the morning.

Please encourage your children to keep up with their studies whilst at the same time getting out into the fresh air and getting away from their screens at other times during the day.
