At Otamatea High School, we believe that all students deserve a quality education within a disciplined, safe and supportive environment.

Otamatea High School emphasises the academic curriculum, while also providing a diverse programme of sporting, cultural and social education.

We aim to prepare students for future tertiary study and employment opportunities, to provide them with the qualifications, knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in their chosen career and to contribute fully to our community.

Our contributing primary schools are Paparoa, Mangawhai, Maungaturoto and Kaiwaka, although we do take students from outside this area, including Matakohe, Tinopai and Waipu.

Despite our comparatively small size, a full range of option subjects is offered at all levels. Of note are the horticulture, photography, automotive studies' and work skills' programmes that we offer in the senior school.

The school welcomes International Students and offers high quality Homestays and, if necessary, ESOL programmes to assist them with their studies. We are a signatory to The Code of Practice for the Care of International Students.

The school has well-established specialist facilities, including a horticulture block, food and textile rooms, a technology suite with access to C.A.D. facilities, a state of the art computer room and a library with access to the Internet, Sky and research facilities.

The Board of Trustees has undertaken to continually upgrade the school's facilities and classrooms so that the school is maintained to a high standard.

The school has excellent outdoor sports' facilities, including an artificial cricket wicket and practice nets, hockey, rugby and soccer fields, tennis courts, a swimming pool, gymnasium and Astroturf court. The school also has a modern fitness gymnasium with excellent weight training and aerobic equipment.

We are fortunate in that we have a close relationship with the Maungaturoto Country Club and the Kaiwaka Sports' Association. This enables our students to have access to golf, squash and tennis facilities, bowling greens and a theatre complex.

Our Activities' programme, run on a Wednesday afternoon, ensures that these facilities are well utilised.

The school itself is used extensively by community groups such as sports' teams, swimming and athletic clubs, and also by the many people who attend our night classes or belong to our Fitness gymnasium.

Pupils at Otamatea High School are very successful academically, and as a whole, out-perform students in other schools of a similar type and decile rating. Our students' success rates are also well above those of most other secondary schools, both within our local area and nationally.

We are very proud of how well our students achieve when they attend tertiary courses. Our extensive student WorkLink programme ensures our pupils haveall the necessary information to access the course or career of their choice.

The vast majority of students travel to school by bus.

The buses are shared with contributing schools in the morning but we have separate buses in the afternoon.

The school colours are blue, white and green and the motto is
"Loyalty and Truth".

Our aim is to instil in each student the goal "to be the best that I can be".
